Around Kittery, Maine

Kittery is Maine's "Oldest Incorporated Town" and has an abundance of history. It is just across
the Piscataqua River from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It has a strong military background dating to
the Revolutionary times and is still going in the 21st century. It is home to the oldest shipyard in
in the nation where the USS RANGER, the first warship to fly the U.S. Flag in battle, was built.
Kittery is the southernmost town in Maine and is generally the first to be visited by travelers from
New Hampshire and other New England states like Massachusetts, Connecticutt, and Rhode Island.

The Piscataqua River separates Maine and New Hampshire and is the second fastest flowing deep water river
in the world. The local tide is around 13 feet which is massive compared to Florida but is tiny compared
to the 32-foot tides of Nova Scotia.
